The primary function of this layer, termed the mesothelium, is to provide a slippery, non-adhesive and protective surface.
Damage to the Mesothelial cells can lead to Mesothelioma Cancer. Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. It is a horrible disease. It lays dormant in the body for 20 years.
